Sadly, famous Santa Claus has died.

John Moore, 86, was in multiple TV ads based on his similar look to the (cover your eyes kids) fictional festive character, complete with matching white beard and rotund belly.

Moore's family will hold his funeral tomorrow.

The star will be remember for those memorable ads and the time he bought carrots for his reindeer parked outside Morrisons in the supermarket's 2005 Christmas ad.

Mr Moore also appeared as Father Christmas at various venues near his home in Burgess Hill, West Sussex and for charity.


Following the news tributes poured in to the actor after his death.


Coca-Cola paid tribute to Moore, who appeared in their print advert for Christmas 2006 and said he brought "the true spirit" of the character to life.

A spokeswoman said: "We are saddened to hear of the passing of John and our thoughts are with his family and the community.
