Aregbesola And Ben Bruce Clash Over Donating His Wardrobe Allowance To Osun Workers
Senator Ben Murray-Bruce representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District, has said that in the spirit of the month of Ramadan observed by Muslim faithfuls, he will not reply Governor Aregbesola who lampooned him over his decision to donate half of his wardrobe allowance (N500,000) to the unpaid workers in Osun state.
“I’ll take whatever attacks come my way but nothing and nobody can dissuade me from doing what my conscience directs in helping my fellow man.
It will be recalled that Governor Rauf Aregbesola who has been unable to pay his workers for more than seven months ridiculed the gesture of the lawmaker in a statement, describing it as the height of hypocrisy.
The governor, in a statement by the Director. Bureau of Communication and Strategy Office, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, asked why it was Osun State – out of the over 15 states that had not paid salaries – that Murray-Bruce wanted to donate his money to. He concluded by saying Senator Ben Murray-Bruce was only playing to the gallery.
The whole clash started after Murray-Bruce, a PDP member, said on his official Twitter handle that he would donate his wardrobe allowance of over N500,000 to the unpaid workers in Osun State and widows in his home state of Bayelsa.
Murray-Bruce had said he would give half of the money to the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun State who would distribute the money to the unpaid workers, and the other half to Bayelsa Widows which has now resulted in an altercation between both parties.
